Membership in the BCBA is about having the support of your colleagues, avenues for service to the community, and direct participation in improving the profession of law in Brevard County. Your membership offers many opportunities to network with others in the legal profession. Through structured activities and informal gatherings, you can interact with attorneys, judges and business leaders, building powerful and valuable professional contacts.
MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS:
Invitations to attend monthly dinner meetings and special events
- Our monthly dinner meetings feature a variety of speakers on diverse
topics. Special events include the Kick-Off Barbecue, the Holiday Party,
Spring and Fall CLEs, Professionalism and Law Day Luncheons and other
fun and informative events. These and other social events, such as the
Young Lawyer Division’s Happy Hour, give lawyers and judges an opportunity to meet regularly in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
- Every year BCBA sponsors or co-sponsors accredited seminars on
Professionalism, Legal Ethics, Family Law or some other area of
interest, often featuring local judges and attorneys. Our goal is to
provide ten (10) hours per year here in Brevard for a very modest fee to
our members.
Courthouse access badges
- BCBA members are eligible to obtain photographic identification cards
allowing admission to all our courthouses without being searched by
security.
Membership Directory
- Every year BCBA members receive our pictorial membership directory at
no cost. The directory includes each member's name, firm affiliation,
address, and telephone and facsimile numbers, plus listings for all
judges and court personnel, the State Attorney's offices, the Public
Defender's offices, Law Library, and many other agencies and services.
Specialty listings are also available. A quick reference telephone list
of our members is conveniently placed in the back of the directory.
The Monthly Newsletter - BCBA members receive the Ex Parte
with news and announcements of interest to our members plus directory
updates, law library news, local administrative orders, and classified
ads.
Website - The BCBA also offers this website where members can access the latest information on BCBA activities.
Young Lawyers Division
- BCBA has an active Young Lawyers Division which sponsors regular
Happy Hours and a number of service projects. These projects give newer
lawyers the chance to become involved and have a good time while doing
so. Associate membership is also available for older lawyers.
Quiet Room
- The Quiet Room is a private room in the Law Library exclusively for
use by the BCBA. It has a phone and fax for use in making local calls,
and a modem outlet for your laptop computers. It allows the attorneys a
quiet, private place to go to make a phone call, receive and return
faxes, or prepare for court.
Advancing Professionalism
- BCBA members become involved by participation on one of our standing
committees, such as the Judicial Liaison Committee, or by signing up to
work on the Directory or The Ex Parte, or by getting involved in such community projects as Law Week and the High School Mock Trial Competition.
